Green Feathers Solar WiFi bird-box camera

A rechargeable and solar-assisted route to investigate where mains cabling is awkward, but Wi-Fi and charging still need planning.

Checked 20 October 2026 · No hands-on testing

Connected app support is not confirmed beyond the published date. This model is not a current finder pick for app viewing; obtain updated written terms before choosing that use.

Our view

Investigate this when a permanent mains cable is impractical but supported Wi-Fi reaches the planned box. Solar changes the charging arrangement; it does not create an internet connection. Choose it only with a realistic plan for seasonal charging and accessible maintenance.

Who it may suit

Someone who can put the box in an appropriate wildlife location and the panel in a useful sun position, within the supported cable route. It is worth investigating for short viewing sessions and managed recording, rather than assuming an unattended full-season broadcast.

Charging is still part of ownership

The supplier’s usage guide says activity and viewing affect consumption and describes topping up the panel indoors. Treat available sunlight and your intended use as constraints, not a battery-life guarantee. Work out a charging route before nesting so that maintenance does not require opening or moving an occupied box.

The mounting guide recommends charging both components and testing the stream at the intended site before fitting. It notes that the battery camera needs more box space and suggests around 14cm internal depth. Check the full fit and mounting instructions for your habitat.

Recording and services

The current settings guide describes event and non-stop recording modes and recommends event recording for most use. Confirm the available modes for your purchased hardware/app, and the power impact, rather than promising continuous solar operation. It says an inserted SD card avoids needing a cloud-storage subscription for that recording route.

Audio descriptions also need clarification: the product listing describes audio functions, while the settings guide says audio settings are unavailable or disabled. Ask what audio recording or communication the current unit actually supports.

Package and complete cost

The camera listing names the camera, panel/bracket, Type-C lead and mounting items. Do not assume a suitable box, card or every charging accessory is supplied. The supplier’s charging descriptions vary between product text and guides: get an itemised quote for the exact bundle and approved top-up equipment.

Include the compatible habitat, recording card, any network improvement and charging equipment in your first-year and three-year calculation. We do not use a bare-camera price as the full installed cost.

Confirm the current support commitment

The manufacturer’s published support table lists 12 October 2026 for mobile-app support and 9 April 2027 for hardware security updates for these model families. Checked on 20 October 2026, the app date has passed. This does not establish that the app has stopped working. Ask for current written support dates for the exact hardware before relying on connected features. A hardware warranty is a separate commitment.

Before ordering

  • Can the box and panel both be positioned well within the supported lead length?
  • Can you top up charge without disturbing nesting birds?
  • Will the exact model support your required recording and audio functions?
  • What are the current app and hardware-security support dates?
