Our view
Investigate this when you have a suitable box and can provide power and home Wi-Fi. Compare the complete kit if you are starting without a habitat or accessories.
Who it may suit
A planned box installation with a power route and an owner who wants phone viewing.
When to look elsewhere
It is not a battery-only setup. The listing explicitly says the camera is not waterproof, so plan a suitable sheltered installation.
Published facts to check
| Buying point | Manufacturer information |
|---|---|
| Published video specification | 1080p at 15fps |
| Connection | Dual-band 2.4GHz / 5GHz Wi-Fi on current listing |
| Power | 12V mains supply |
| Storage | microSD up to 128GB; card not in camera-only contents |
| Viewing | Live and recorded footage through the app |
What comes in the package?
Camera-only contents list the third-generation camera, mains supply, mounting accessories and guide. A bird box, recording card and any extension cable need separate consideration.
Complete ownership cost
Add the items you lack, including a compatible habitat and storage. Price any optional cloud service separately; local recording capability is not a promise that all app services are free.
| Period | What to include |
|---|---|
| First year | Current camera/bundle quote + missing extras + year-one plan, power and consumables. |
| Three years | Upfront equipment + three years of chosen ongoing costs. Allow separately for replacement equipment. |
An existing box can change the buying decision
Camera-only can make sense if you already have a suitable habitat and compatible accessories. First check mounting space, the approved power route and supported Wi-Fi at the proposed position. The camera’s wireless data connection does not make it battery-powered.
Starting without a box or accessories makes the complete kit worth pricing. Count the parts you actually lack, including storage and extensions, then verify the selected kit contents with the supplier. Keep the camera sheltered as specified and install before nesting begins.
Questions before ordering
- Does your existing box suit the camera and its mounting position?
- Can the supplied power arrangement reach the site safely?
- Does the app support your specific phone or tablet?
Installation timing
Fit equipment before a box becomes occupied. Use the box-camera guide to plan fit, installation and conservation considerations.
Check Wi-Fi at your planned bird box
Use our bird-box Wi-Fi checklist to separate a preliminary phone check from a real camera test, and plan what to try if coverage is weak.
Confirm the current support commitment
The manufacturer’s published support table lists 12 October 2026 for mobile-app support and 9 April 2027 for hardware security updates for these model families. Checked on 20 October 2026, the app date has passed. This does not establish that the app has stopped working. Ask for current written support dates for the exact hardware before relying on connected features. A hardware warranty is a separate commitment.
