Our view
Worth comparing with the Ursus if 4K recording and overwrite support are useful to you. Ask for comparable footage before treating the resolution figure as a guarantee of more usable night detail.
Who it may suit
A local-recording setup where the owner wants the Nova’s recording options and can still retrieve the card.
When to look elsewhere
The higher specification does not add phone viewing. Battery maintenance, storage access and positioning remain necessary.

What comes in the package?
A strap is listed and there is a tripod mount. Select the required card and batteries explicitly; do not compare a populated bundle against a bare-camera price.
Complete ownership cost
Start with the camera and selected accessories, then allow for batteries and any charger. If you already own compatible equipment, compare the actual extras you still need.
| Period | What to include |
|---|---|
| First year | Current camera/bundle quote + missing extras + year-one plan, power and consumables. |
| Three years | Upfront equipment + three years of chosen ongoing costs. Allow separately for replacement equipment. |
Choose recording options for a reason
Consider whether you will retain full-resolution clips or mostly review brief visits on a small screen. If you want higher-resolution source files, price suitable storage and check playback compatibility as part of the project.
With overwrite enabled, valuable older clips need copying before they are replaced. It is a maintenance choice, not unlimited permanent storage. Compare a populated Ursus basket with an equivalent Nova basket rather than one camera-only price against a kit.
Questions before ordering
- Will you keep full-resolution footage or mainly watch short clips on a small screen?
- Is overwrite behaviour right for you, and will you copy clips you want to retain?
- Is the camera’s night clip length suitable for the observations you want?
