The useful difference
Start with the Ursus when minimising the initial spend is the priority. Investigate Nova when its higher-resolution recording and overwrite option are useful. Neither meets a live phone-viewing requirement.

Decide what the extra specification is worth
Would you use higher-resolution files, or mainly look through short clips to identify visitors? Make that decision before judging the camera by its headline resolution. Ask for footage from the same kind of garden position, especially at night.
Storage is an everyday difference
Without overwrite, include clearing or replacing a full card in your routine. With overwrite enabled, copy important clips before they are replaced. Neither approach removes the need to check that recording is working.
Be careful with the seller’s comparison widgets
The product pages contain more than one price and trigger-speed summary. We use the main displayed camera prices as dated snapshots, and do not use the conflicting trigger figures to declare a winner. Confirm the exact specification with the seller if that detail determines your purchase.
Our decision rule
- For live phone viewing, investigate a connected camera instead.
- For reviewing later, compare the actual camera, card and battery bundle cost.
- Do not pay for 4K purely on the assumption it guarantees clearer night footage.
One-year and three-year costs
Use current quotes for the exact options, then add missing accessories, chosen services and consumables. The setup-cost worksheet keeps one-off spending separate from annual costs. Electricity, batteries and cloud costs are not interchangeable between products.
